PREPARE
- Gather Materials- Paperbased or online calendar, pen/pencil, assignment/test deadlines
- Seek Support- Ask your teacher, tutor, parent or peer for support as needed.
APPLY
- Select either a paper-based or online calendar-
- Paper-based calendar– select a calendar that is easy to carry with you so you can easily record deadlines as they are assigned.
- Online calendar– select a calendar that is easy to access using your mobile device. A Google calendar is likely the easiest option.
- Record due dates-
- Record the due dates of all your existing assignments/tests and prepare for completion well in advance of due dates.
- Block off time to do the tasks
- Record all regularly scheduled classes or extracurricular activities in your calendar. Complete this for at least 2 months at a time.
- Decide on a minimum amount of time you will dedicate to homework or studying each day. Block off that specific amount of time in your calendar when you will be most alert to complete the tasks. Complete these blocks for one month at a time.
- You may also need more than the minimum amount of time blocked but you can add this extra time on a week by week basis as needed.
- Review calendar regularly
- Check your calendar every morning before you start your day to ensure you are prepared for the day and every night before bed to check off everything you completed.
- It may also be helpful to put several alarms on your phone throughout the day to stay on track with your schedule.
