Our Company Overview

Study Smart is a research-based learning intelligence platform transforming how educators understand and support student success. Traditional education systems often rely on achievement-based assessments that measure what students know but overlook how students learn, what motivates them, and the barriers affecting engagement. This gap disproportionately impacts students with invisible learning challenges and historically underserved populations.

Study Smart addresses this challenge through a holistic, interactive assessment that captures student learning profiles, motivation, cognitive strategies, and self-regulated learning skills. Using evidence-based frameworks, including Self-Regulated Learning theory and student-centred learning principles, the platform generates personalized learning plans that provide students and educators with actionable strategies.

Co-founded by Dr. Diane Montgomery and funded through SSHRC and Mitacs, Study Smart bridges research and practice by transforming assessment data into meaningful educational action. Early implementation demonstrates strong student engagement and increased learner awareness, with 84.2% of students reporting improved understanding of their learning.

Our goal is to create a scalable learning intelligence ecosystem that supports personalized education, strengthens student agency, and helps schools move from deficit-based approaches toward strengths-based learning.
