Mike Palmer contracted a virus five years ago while in the military service. The virus affected his heart. After spending six months in an army hospital, Mike was given a medical discharge. Several months later, physicians warned Mike his life expectancy would be reduced unless he had a heart transplant. Mike agreed to the procedure and received a new heart.
For the last three years, Mike has been swimming and walking many miles to regain his strength. Next week he is scheduled to begin a thousand kilometer marathon, riding about seventy kilometers each day, to raise money for the Heart Association.
