Getting a summer job is a priority for some students and can benefit them in a variety of ways. A summer job may play a role when a student chooses future career plans or goals.

The job may help develop critical thinking and social skills needed for a future occupation. Summer employment might be the only work experience some students will have to list on a future job application.

A student might need to earn spending money for personal things or social activities. The paycheck from a summer job may be the student’s first chance to learn to manage money.
